5 Fab Ways to Get Your Dog Summer Ready

When the summer comes around each year, you usually make sure you’ve got all of your preparations in order for you and your family. Whether you’re getting haircuts or buying summer clothing, there is always something on your list to do. On a similar note, you also want to properly care for your dog and make sure they feel ready for the warmer months ahead. Making sure they’re comfortable and well-prepared with everything they need is often just as important as getting yourself ready! With this in mind, here are five fab ways to get your dog ready for the summer months!

  • Get Rid of Fleas

No dog wants to spend their summer fighting off pesky fleas, so this is your sign to take a look and make sure they’re flea free for the summer months. If you’re unsure how to get rid of fleas you may want to look into some at-home remedies to help your dog feel more comfortable. Fleas tend to prefer dogs to humans and they thrive in warm and humid conditions when the summer months are at their peak.

  • Book Them Into Doggy Groomers

If you have a long-haired dog, you may want to book them into the groomers to reduce some of that extra fluff from their bodies. When the sun is out it can be slightly uncomfortable for a dog who is full of hair, so this is certainly something to keep in mind.

  • Walk Them Earlier in the Day or Later in the Evening

When it’s a hot summer’s day it’s very important to walk them earlier in the morning or later at night so that the ground isn’t too hot for them. The hot pavements can be damaging to their paws and can cause some serious harm, so this is also something to be mindful of.

  • Make Dog Friendly Ice Lollies

When the sun is shining, there is nothing more refreshing than a cold ice lolly, especially when it can be enjoyed safely by your dog. In the comfort of your own home, you can make some dog friendly ice lollies so that your perfect pooch can stay warm in the blistering sun. Make sure you consult your vet before offering your dog any new foods as you want to make sure they’re super safe for them to consume beforehand.

  • Create Some Shade in Your Garden

Making a shady spot in your garden for your dog to rest their paws after a long day is the ideal solution. This will encourage your dog to go outside and enjoy some fresh air on a warm summer’s day, and it will give you peace of mind that they’re not too hot in the sunny conditions.

Some of these preparations are actually a lot of fun for both you and your dog, and others are very practical. Hopefully, you can create your very own checklist of things to do for your perfect pooch this summer season so that they’re ready when the sunshine comes out to play!
