1. Tell our readers a little bit about your background and how you came to do what you do now
Iam Smiley Johnson AKA Smiley J, a music aficionado with a great appreciation of music and understands the universal effects that music has on listeners. Having managed a few local bands including her own and a few independent artists I wanted to create a platform that focused on independent artists who you may not necessarily hear on your top mainstream radio stations. The Smiley J Artist Zone Podcast was created solely with the independent artist in mind a fun place where artists can share their musical journey, new music and also have some fun discussions about a little bit of this and a little bit of that you have to tune in enjoy the cool vibes!
The show is weekly and focuses on R&B and soul, Neo-soul, Smooth Jazz, Jazz hip hop, Pop, Reggae, World, Afrobeats and Latin music, and of course Funk!

Independent artists are welcome to come on The Smiley J Artist Zone and share their musical journey and new music while also expanding their fanbase.
3. Do you have any tips for independent music artists?
Educate yourself about the music business, manage your money, choose your team wisely, have a good attitude, and most importantly be yourself and have fun!
4. Who have been your influences and inspirations in the business?
I actually draw my inspiration from every strong and resilient woman from the past to the present who is making a positive difference in their community, the workplace, in the home, and just being a change agent making the world a better place!
5. What does the future hold for Smiley Zone? Can we expect anything new in 2021?
Continue to use my platform to showcase artists and their music. I would love to organize an annual festival for independent artists with the help of some sponsors!
