They say there’s no rest for the wicked, and here we are not two weeks removed from the 2016 Sundance Film Festival ready to satiate your appetite for new stories. It would seem that the most wicked of them all is finally making its long awaited theatrical run in the form of Robert Eggers’ hauntingly authentic The Witch, a meticulously designed and shot film that summons the terror of colonial era New England and its most notorious legend. (Seriously, the film’s official site is creepily immersive on both visual and auditory levels, and I just shuddered after unintentionally going full screen with my headphones in. Don’t do that.)
For its part, Netflix continues to roll out hits from the 2015 Festival, with this month’s titles including Rick Famuyiwa’s hip-hop paean to South Central LA in Dope, and Michael Almereyda’s cerebral take on the Milgram experiment in, well, Experimenter.Check out all of this month’s releases below.
