koralee vs. dj trotsky: is the pop/alternative/electronic collaboration between cross-border based singer, songwriter, actor and visual artist koralee and Los Angeles based songwriter/producer/instrumentalist dj trotsky. With koralee’s unique, powerful and vulnerable voice at the center, the songs weave electronic elements with organic elements to create a rich, dark, and expressive sound.
Thematically the songs are a deep journey into the heart of darkness. The songs tell stories of characters obsessed. Revenge. Sadness. Destruction. Regrets. However this is not autobiography. “i’m a happy person” says koralee with a laugh while reflecting on the tortured souls whose stories she sings.
Their reimagined cover of iggy pop’s “search and destroy” had it’s radio premiere on kroq’s “Rodney on the roq” with Rodney Bingenheimer. The song was then added to the playlists of 88 college radio stations in the US (and one in Japan.)
These songs have been described as “nine inch nails” meets “the cranberries” or “alanis morissette.” “Breaks My Heart” has been remixed in a more Pop direction and “Search and Destroy” has gone more dance.
koralee has collaborated with Morris “Mo” Pleasure, joris vincken, jan-linder-koda, matt ross and marty rifkin among others and records a new album with KMS Records artist and UNT Records head john norman in fall 2016. Her abstract paintings are in private collections all over North America.
dj trotsky (david brownstein) has written and produced pop, rock, funk, and rap in nyc, los angeles and san francisco. He has collaborated and written with shannon hurley, logan heftel, and others and is a grammy nominated music video producer and a voting member of the recording academy.
