DRIVETIME | Jazz Band From Philadephia Releases A Timeless Album “Mysterious Life”

MYSTERIOUS LIFE BY DRIVETIME

Established five-piece Drivetime remind us why they have been at the forefront of the global jazz scene for over ten years now in their latest album. The twelve track epic is a total spectacle that pushes the boundaries of what can be done with instrumental music.

Opening up on track “Crossroad”, we are soothed right from the start with romantic saxophones and perfectly precise instrumentation that progressively builds up. As with all their songs, when the beat drops and all the instruments come in we are blasted out of the stratosphere into jazz-fuelled euphoria. All the tracks compliment each other perfectly as we are taken through a range of moods. From the funk-dripped verses of second track DuFuNk, to the stylish guitar lines of third track “Feb19th & TheFBI”, the record is truly genre-defying. Showing off a range of exotic styles from jazz, funk and beyond.

What really stands out on this record is the eclectic range of styles that the band covers. Each song is a world of its own that evolves as the track develops and obliterates the boundaries of the genre. Stand-out songs like “Lost” build up a menacing amount of tension that will have you at the edge of your seat. There’s no feeling or mood left untouched in this release.

Happiness. Fear. Euphoria. We hear it all painted in beautiful musical detail in this timeless record.

From the exotically, funky bars of tracks like “Mr. Mango”, to the smooth, laid-back instrumentation of final track “Tears In The Rain” this is one musical thrill ride you don’t want to miss out on.
