Pump It Up Magazine: Harmony, your roles at C89.5FM span across music direction, program assistance, promotions, and more. How do you balance these diverse responsibilities, and what drives your passion for each aspect?
Harmony Soleil:
I’m someone who thrives when I have a lot going on—I actually enjoy being busy. But it definitely takes mindful planning. I dedicate certain days and hours to specific tasks like music scheduling or connecting with industry partners, and that helps me stay organized. Of course, things don’t always go as planned, so I try to stay flexible.
Ultimately, it all comes down to my passion for the music. Whether I’m sharing it with my students or our C89.5 listeners, it’s about keeping the quality high and staying true to the heart of what we do.

Navigating Nominations & Representing Women in Music
Pump It Up Magazine: Nominated for awards like #1 Radio Mixshow DJ and Seattle’s Female DJ of the Year, you’ve been widely recognized. How does it feel, and what message do you have for aspiring women in the industry?
Harmony Soleil:
I’m always so honored—it’s humbling and special to be recognized, especially in lineups that are often male-dominated. Even if I don’t win, just representing as a female DJ is a win in itself and a step forward for the dance music scene.
To all aspiring women: keep going. Don’t let gatekeeping or fear hold you back. There are amazing communities and industry groups for women and non-binary folks—find them or create your own. Connection is key, and so is believing in your right to take up space in this industry.
Beats and Books: Mentoring at Nathan Hale High School
Pump It Up Magazine: Beyond radio, you teach at Nathan Hale High School—your alma mater! How do you connect with your students and guide them musically?
Harmony Soleil:
It’s incredibly special—I took the same class I now teach, so I know how it feels from their side. I try to get to know each student personally so I can tailor their experience to their interests, whether that’s radio, media, or music production.
I also share my passion and joy for what I do. If they see that I love it, I hope it encourages them to love what they do—whether in radio or beyond. One of my favorite thoughts is imagining a student hearing a Tiësto track 20 years from now and saying, “We played this in radio class—I love this song!”
Positive Vibes Only: The Secret to a Memorable DJ Set
Pump It Up Magazine: Your energy is infectious—especially at C89.5’s Valentine’s Day Party. How do you bring positivity into your work and create unforgettable sets?
Harmony Soleil:
Thank you! Honestly, I think positivity just naturally flows from dance music—especially house music. There’s an inherent joy in it. I keep my energy high and don’t take myself too seriously. When DJs try too hard to be “cool,” they lose authenticity.
The key is to have fun yourself. When the DJ is genuinely enjoying the set, the crowd feels it—that’s when magic happens.

Words of Wisdom: Advice for Aspiring Artists
Pump It Up Magazine: As a woman with a powerful presence in music, what’s your advice for young women—and men—wanting to make their mark?
Harmony Soleil:
Let the process take time. Success doesn’t happen overnight. Be willing to start from the bottom, even if that means playing to an empty room at first.
Also, always be kind—to the bartender, to the lighting tech, to the crowd. This industry is built on relationships, and how you treat people matters. At the same time, demand respect back—don’t stay in situations that don’t feel right.
Finally, never stop learning. Stay open to new genres, new gear, new people. The more you know and the more you grow, the better DJ—and person—you’ll be.
