Pium: What inspired your new single “Still Here,” and how does it reflect your personal journey?
Kristin Venae: Still Here came from a place of contentment and security, I wanted the song to reflect the beauty of the day to day and celebrate the small things in a loving relationship that would usually be over looked or rarely touched upon in music. I also wanted the song to be relatable throughout different types of relationships and not just romantic love. I’m very proud of what Tim Newsom and I created emotionally through the composition and now more than ever with the things I’ve been through lately the lyrics of the song really feel lived.
Pium: After focusing on your health, how did your battle with stage II breast cancer shape your music and influence the message of “Still Here”?
Kristin Venae: After having a year of unimaginable hardships with Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation, Surgery again and then hormone therapy (5-10 years on going post treatment) it’s made me more determined to go after my aspiration and achieve the goals I have, to appreciate my family and live the words of Still Here, because it’s the unconditional love I describe in the song that got me through and gets me through day to day. Love is really what’s important and to love, so that’s my message.
Pium: The song blends pop and soul—what made you choose these styles for this track?
Kristin Venae: growing up I was always influenced by gospel music in church, and Pop has always been the soundtrack to my life so it made sense organically to infuse the two in the composition and the vocal melody.
Pium: Mental health and self-care are big topics for many. How has music helped you heal, especially with this song?
Kristin Venae: 100% for me music has always been a healer for me. It’s that friend that’s there with you in all the moments of your life and is linked to so many memories. It’s funny how music can really transport you to places and you feel like your back there and you feel the emotions again it’s wonderful. I really hope Still Here does that for people and that memories are always joyous.
Pium: As an actor and producer, how do you balance your work in film and music?
Kristin Venae: for me Art Is intertwined, and I approach them all the same way. The story, the evolution, the outcome. I give it my all and I hope the audience sees that. But like anything rewarding it’s tough and time consuming, but of course beautiful
