SLIP~ons Announce Debut EP with Video for “Heavy Machinery”

SLIP~ons , a guitar-forward power-pop band based in Vancouver, BC, is set to make a significant impact with their highly anticipated debut EP, “Heavy Machinery.” Formed by Brock Pytel, known for his involvement with The Doughboys, on guitar, and Brian Minato, recognized for his work with Sarah McLachlan, on bass, SLIP~ons combine their talents to deliver a sonic experience reminiscent of the vibrant Minneapolis sound of the 90s.

“Heavy Machinery” showcases SLIP~ons’ ability to seamlessly merge the raw energy of grunge with catchy power-pop hooks, resulting in an enthralling track that leaves a lasting impression. With Pytel’s gritty vocals and clever lyrics, the song paints a vivid picture of exploring Vancouver’s East Side. The guitar-driven instrumentals pay homage to influential bands like The Pixies while building up to an impactful crescendo that echoes the track’s name. Notably, the addition of sparse yet poignant gang vocals adds depth and enhances the overall sound.

Accompanying the single is an engaging black and white music video for “Heavy Machinery.” Directed and edited by R.D. Cane, with cinematography by Ryan C. Clark, the video showcases dynamic montages of the band rehearsing, utilizing creative edits that play with time and space. Offering an intimate side-stage view of the band’s performance, the video captures the authenticity and intensity of their live shows. A particular highlight is Shockk’s impressive guitar solo, serving as a climactic moment within the visual narrative.

Mixed by Dave Ogalvie, renowned for his work with Skinny Puppy, “Heavy Machinery” marks a significant milestone for SLIP~ons, as they triumphantly overcome various obstacles to present their debut EP to the world. The title track and its accompanying video serve as a powerful introduction to their distinctive sound, setting the stage for an EP that promises an engaging collection of songs characterized by infectious melodies and electrifying musicianship.

Early praise for the EP has come from esteemed mastering engineer Ronan Chris Murphy, who describes it as some of Pytel’s best work. This recognition further fuels the anticipation surrounding SLIP~ons’ debut release and highlights their continued growth as musicians.
